Oro Verde Round Brilliant 1
As a child I was a fan of comic books. One of my favorite characters was the Swamp Thing; a part man/part plant humanoid creature that lived in and protected the swamp. Because of the chemicals that helped transform him into the Swamp Thing and the plant material that his body was made of, he was an awesome neon green color.
When I gaze at Jim Perkins' stunning round brilliant Oro Verde, I cannot help but think of the Swamp Thing and his awesome superhuman power. Oro Verde, which is Spanish for “gold green,” is a variety of quartz that gets its color from heat and irradiation, not unlike that which caused the color of the Swamp Thing.
Mr. Perkins was able to use his mastery of the lapidary craft to bring out the best in what this stone had to offer. With excellent clarity, sparkle, and exceptional light return, both Jim Perkins’ stone and the Swamp Thing possess a certain power that is sure to bring out the superhero in all those who admire it. One difference, however, is that unlike Swamp Thing who rarely emerged in the day time, this Oro Verde begs to be displayed at all hours of the day or night. While Swamp Thing was often misunderstood, there is no misunderstanding the gorgeous beauty of this stone.
