“Thats one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.”
-Neil Armstrong
One of Stephen Kotlowski’s most enduring contributions to the world of gemology (besides his masterful work in gem cutting,) was his role in helping to bring Turkish Diaspore to market.
Sometimes marketed under the trade name, Zultanite, diaspore is a color change gem from Turkey. Under daylight or fluorescent light, diapsore displays a pale green color with flashes of yellow. Under incandescent lighting it has a golden champagne color, and when looked at under softer lighting, such as candlelight, it shows a pinkish-red color. The larger the stone, the more pronounced the color change effect will be.
Weighing an impressive 10.05 ct, this beautiful jewel has been cut by Stephen into a long rectangular shape with incredible sparkle and flash. Known for being one of the more difficult materials to facet, Zultanite has become increasingly popular in the past several years thanks in part to people like Stephen. This is a rare opportunity to pick up a great-sized Zultanite cut by Mr. Kotlowski himself, one of the early pioneers of Turkish diaspore.
